Funding your Fertility Treatment
Unfortunately not all people are eligible for fertility treatment on the NHS. If there is any doubt over your eligibility you are encouraged to speak to your GP in the first instance or call the unit for advice. Eligibility criteria vary depending on where in the UK you live. Further information can be found on the website of your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Links to the local CCGs can be found on our NHS Acceptance Criteria Page.
As a clinic we recognise that funding your own fertility treatment is a costly process. At Shropshire and Mid Wales Fertility Centre we are currently able to offer two different options to those funding their own treatment.
- Self Funded Route – patients come through for treatment in the same way as an NHS patient would but without being subject to NHS waiting list. Patients simply pay the NHS for their treatment.
- Access Fertility – we have partnered with Access Fertility to offer fixed price fertility treatment and they offer packages to suit all circumstances. Some of their packages include the option for a full or partial refund if you do not have a baby at the end of the treatment. For more information on what Access fertility can offer please visit the Access Fertility Website. Please be advised that although the Access packages are comprehensive the prices do not include medication and any diagnostic appointments and tests.
Self Funded Route
For further information about self funded treatment options please see our Funding Your Treatment Guide.
The Shropshire and Mid Wales Fertility Unit Charges document shows the charges levied by the Shropshire and Mid Wales Fertility Unit for various appointments, treatments and packages. Staff are happy to explain these figures if you wish. You can also view our pricing documents for an Endometrial Scratch.
As part of your treatment package you will be required to have blood samples taken and laboratory tests run. These are billed by the SaTH Pathology department and the cost of these are also included in the document above.
Supply and delivery of your fertility treatment drugs are contracted out to a homecare pharmacy company. The type and quantities of drugs varies between patients but you are advised to budget for the drugs costing between £1,000 to £2,000 per cycle. You will be invoiced for your drugs by Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust and do not pay the provider direct.
Also be aware that there are on-going annual costs should you wish to retain embryos or sperm/eggs in storage. The cost of the first year’s storage is included in your treatment package.
